When Brain & Body Disconnect

Do you know the feeling — your heart is racing, you know there’s no real danger, but you can’t think or talk yourself out of it?

This is where brain and body are out of sync. We help you move beyond thinking and reconnect with feeling, regulation, and direct experience.

When Brain & Body Disconnect

At Counseling Amsterdam, we offer a Brain & Body approach to mental health, combining psychological insight with body-based work to understand emotional challenges more fully.

Many emotional and stress-related symptoms are experienced not only psychologically, but also physically.

We often see that difficulties are not only experienced in thoughts and emotions, but also in the body through stress, tension, overwhelm, and physical symptoms.

Many people feel trapped inside their minds. You know what you would like to change, but your feelings and physical reactions keep pulling you back into the same patterns.

Do you know the feeling your heart is racing, you know there is no real danger, but you can’t think or talk yourself out of it?

This is where the brain and body are no longer working together. The nervous system becomes activated, and insight alone is often not enough to create change. By working with both the mind and the body, we help you understand these patterns and reconnect with regulation, emotional awareness, and direct experience.

How we work

We combine psychological therapy with body-based work. Patterns are not only explored through conversation, but also through physical awareness, movement, and nervous system regulation.

This allows change to happen not only cognitively, but also physically and emotionally.

How we work

With our Mind-Body approach, we combine insights from Psychology, Psychomotor Therapy (PMT), body-based work, and top sports expertise into a personalised treatment strategy.

Our work may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Coaching, EFT, Polyvagal Theory, Breathwork, Mindfulness, and nervous system regulation techniques. Depending on your situation, we combine conversation, emotional awareness, movement, and physical experience to support lasting change.

The collaboration between psychologist Jeannette Bolck and physical therapist and coach Louis Wijdenbosch allows us to work from both a psychological and physical perspective.

Each process starts with a thorough intake, looking at emotional, mental, physical, and lifestyle-related factors. This includes physical assessment, stress and recovery patterns, hormonal influences, blood test evaluation, and collaboration with other disciplines.

Your Process and Outcomes

Every person responds differently to stress, emotions, relationships, and life experiences. Your nervous system carries patterns shaped by past experiences, stress, environment, and physical wellbeing.

That is why we work from a personalised assessment of both mental and physical factors, helping you better understand your reactions, build regulation, and create more stability and resilience in daily life.

Your Process and Outcomes

Every person is different. Together, we create a personalised plan tailored to your specific situation and goals.

We focus on practical tools and sustainable change not only understanding patterns, but learning how to regulate emotions, build resilience, and respond differently in daily life and relationships.

Sessions are designed to feel accessible, supportive, and grounded, while helping you reconnect with your own strength and sense of direction.

Over time, this can help you:

  • feel more emotionally stable
  • create healthier boundaries
  • break recurring patterns
  • strengthen confidence and self-awareness
  • feel more connected to yourself and others
  • build resilience for future challenges

Sessions are available in-person, outdoors, online, or via WhatsApp where appropriate.

Brain-Body Integration

With our Brain-Body approach, we address a range of common complaints, including burnout, anxiety, trauma, hormonal issues, relationship issues, setting boundaries, emotional sensitivity, and anger management.

Our approach is particularly effective for people with hormonal issues and helps regulate emotional and physical reactions associated with hormonal imbalances, such as those related to PMS, menopause, or other women's health issues.

Women's Health & Hormonal Balance

Our approach is particularly supportive for women experiencing emotional and physical challenges related to hormonal fluctuations, including PMS, PMDD, perimenopause, stress sensitivity, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and mood instability.

By integrating psychological therapy with nervous system regulation and body-based awareness, we help women better understand and regulate the interaction between hormones, stress, emotions, and physical symptoms.

We offer 1: 1 guidance and women circles & retreats to share and practice together.
